District 5 United sponsored an Education-focused Candidates Forum at the Roberto Cruz Alum Rock Library on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 6pm. More information about this event is below the video.

Candidates running for Trustee in Alum Rock, East Side, and Mount Pleasant school districts were invited, as well as candidates for State Senate District 15.  Education is a “Hot Button” issue with ballot measures  at the state and local level that impact us all.  State Senators have  a direct vote and impact on the state budget, and School Trustees deal with that  impact on a daily basis.

The Candidates Forum was an opportunity for the  community to hear candidates speak on the issues facing our schools that are  important to the community. To that end, District 5 United conducted an online survey to reach out to the community to get their  feedback on the issues.  The information provided through the survey was used to identify our community’s concerns, as well as to develop  questions asked of the candidates.  You can view the survey results at www.district5united.org/activitiesevents/surveys/education-survey/   Survey results were also shared with participating candidates.

Doors opened at 5:30pm and Candidates had the opportunity to arrive early for an informal “Meet & Greet” with attendees.  The Forum began promptly at 6pm.
